40 Hour

The HAZWOPER 8 course is for workers who come into contact with hazardous waste and substances. It meets the requirements outlined in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for eight (8) hours of annual refresher training.

The course includes nine sections associated with Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER 8 Hour OSHA Training). They include Decontamination and Confined Space Entry. Other topics include Site Characterization, Hazard Recognition, Toxicology, Personal Protective Equipment and Emergency Procedures. 

The HAZWOPER 40 covers topics included in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120, and is required for workers who perform activities that expose or potentially expose them to hazardous substances, and specifically for workers who are involved in:

  • Clean-up operations

  • Emergency response operations

  • Storage, disposal, or treatment of hazardous substances

  • Uncontrolled hazardous waste sites

  • Voluntary clean-up operations

 

Topics include protection against hazardous chemicals, elimination of hazardous chemicals, safety of workers and the environment and OSHA regulations. This course covers topics included in 29 CFR 1910.120. 

 

Trainees must have additional hands-on training in the donning, doffing, and use of the Personal Protective Equipment required for their jobsite(s) in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.120.

 

Workers must have 40 hours of initial training and at least three days of supervised field experience before they are allowed to enter the site.

This course meets the standard requirement of 40 hours of initial training and the required 8 hours of hands-on training.

The three days field experience under a trained, experienced supervisor is the responsibility of the student’s employer or potential employer.
